She broke down barriers within the world of music in her roles as a performer, singer and designer. She was a contemporary and traditional a Mexican-American star who bound together both worlds in a singular way--and brought amazing Tejano music to an affluent crowd. She was a rising star whose untimely passing splintered it. As is the norm for a gifted, charming and young musician dies too soon and is buried, many mourned the greatness she was yet to attain. Fans have struggled over the years in order to preserve her legacy. Selena's shooting death sparked an emotional response within the Latino culture that can be likened with Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. Selena was an extremely loved Latino performer across North America. Her music transcended the boundaries of culture and brought joy to both young people and older adults. Selena was an asexual glamorous performer on stage who was sometimes referred to by her as the Latina Madonna. On stage, Selena was an excellent role model since she was active in anti-drug and AIDS campaigns.
